Flo's Fundraiser

Flo's Fundraiser · 19 March 2022
Clare Brophy is THE most amazing individual I could ever have the pleasure of knowing, let alone calling my mum. She has offered me endless support throughout my life so far and has continued to do so even after being diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2021.
Since her diagnosis she has been supported by Macmillan Cancer Support in many invaluable ways and that's why I want to raise funds for them.
After several biopsies, she had a mastectomy on 29 Dec and then in January, received the news that she will also require chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Her Chemo starts on 14 March and she has been advised that she is very likely to lose her hair days after that.
As soon as she told me this my mind was made up; I will shave my head to show my support and solidarity for her so that it is not an experience she will have to go through alone.
For many chemo patients or people experiencing hair loss it can often be an isolating and solitary feeling as its a physical indicator of what they're going through. My mum is confident in the amazing support networks and friends she has around her at this time and can't be grateful enough for her friends but loosing her hair would still likely take a big toll on her emotionally so I'm happy to take that step with her.
This is why on the 19th of March 2022 I will be donating my hair (all roughly 29 inches of it) to Little Princess Trust and shaving my head to raise money for Macmillan.
'The Big Shave' will take place at Sixways Stadium ( where I play rugby for Worcester Warriors Women) after a morning of training and before our social starts (specific timings will be added in due course). I am hoping to get mum there with me if she is well enough and able to, and also aim to livestream it on my social media platforms.
