Fundraising for KEEPTHEBEAT
We are 3 brothers of varying fitness who have decided to raise money by running the Tough Mudder event on 21st May 2016 at Belvoir Castle for Keep the Beat Charity based in Leicestershire, supporting The East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.
Fleur Rawson, daughter of Rebecca Balshaw and Peter Rawson, was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy at about 3 1/2 months old. This is a disease of the heart, which makes the left side of the heart become enlarged with weakened walls making it hard for the heart to pump blood around the body. This led to Fleur having a build up of fluid around her body and on her lungs causing a shortness of breath. Fleur had to spend all of her energy and calories helping her heart to pump blood around her body, this meant that she wasn't able to gain much weight either.
With Fleur being short of breath along with poor weight gain, a trip to the hospital followed where she was quickly diagnosed and moved to Glenfield Hospital. It was here that Rebecca and Peter were introduced to the fantastic staff and amazing charities, Keep the Beat and Heart Link.
These charities support parents and children to ensure all time spent in hospital is as comfortable as possible. This is done by providing beds for parents to stay with their children, along with providing many different items such as multi sensory equipment, toys, medical equipment, presents over Christmas and many many more different things.
Spending 5 minutes on the ward is more than enough to show the massive influence of the fantastic charities on the babies, children and parents alike.
We hope that you can help us to show our massive appreciation to Keep the Beat by donating even just a small amount money.
Thank you
