Story
Durrell is an international charity that is on a mission to save species from extinction and create a wilder, healthier more colourful world.Durrell's work in the wild and at Jersey Zoo RECOVERS wildlife, REVIVES ecosystems and RECONNECTS people to nature.
To the unexperienced eye I might have looked like a fit person, while I had never managed to complete a jog that was longer than 60 seconds without wanting to die every step of the way.
At the end of June 2020, for fun and a bit of a thrill, my friend Naya and I started the "couch to 5K" challenge. Every run we would dread the next one, thinking we would never EVER manage to endure over 60 seconds jog (more like skipping on the spot, but still!). We very reluctantly trusted the programme, and still very much hate every step of our runs, BUT those runs have now reached well over 6K of nonstop panting and swearing, and we are feeling great after each of them.
This 13K challenge came up few weeks after we had completed the programme (also few weeks ago..) and I thought "what a perfect way to celebrate our achievement and give ourselves another goal reach!" After several lists of insults from Naya, she very reluctantly accepted to join the challenge too.
We are now running this 13K to both support the Durrell mission (hoping to increase awareness on their project) and to encourage our friends to stay healthy, no matter their excuses :)
