CLIC Sargent is there for young cancer patients and their families from the point of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. They provide practical, emotional and financial support and fight tirelessly for them so they can focus on the important things.
The impact of coronavirus is being felt by each and every one of us, none more so than young cancer patients and families. As well as coping with the impact of living with cancer, young people and their families also have to manage the extra anxiety, risks and financial pressure that coronavirus brings. Coronavirus has meant fundraising events and activities have had to be cancelled and as the charity receives no government funding, it is facing a huge fall in donations that are depended upon to keep the vital services running.
To support World Cancer Day we are trying to raise at least £600 from the sporting community by simply sharing a picture of your favourite sports stash, making a donation and nominating your friends.
We'll match every penny up to £600 so hopefully together we can raise £1,200 for such a worthwhile cause.
Why £600?
- Over 600 young people from the South West alone were supported by CLIC Sargent last year.
- £600 per month is the average amount of increased costs for a family following a cancer diagnosis of a young person. Costs include travel for treatment, car parking, accommodation, extra heating at home, new clothes to fit changing body size as a result of treatment, and much more.
- 600 miles is the same distance a young cancer patient will cover on 10 trips to and from hospital for treatment. Each round trip, which is on average 60 miles for families, isn’t taken by choice. Many have to travel to specialist cancer centres to get the care they need.
