Why are we fundraising?
This challenge is taking place in celebration of our gorgeous sister Amy.
Amy fulfilled her vocation at the Birmingham Women's Hospital as a neonatal nursery nurse. We tragically lost our beautiful Amy in September 2017 aged just 32. My family and I are trying to keep her passion for patient care alive by raising money for this vital cause.
Amy’s love of flamingos now seeps into everything we do, so we just had to include a flamingo in the theme!
We were originally planning to hold a Woodland Walk this summer, but due to the current Covid-19 crisis we have had to rethink the event to ensure we can support the charity at a time when donations are needed more than ever.
So, what do you have to do?
Complete any activity you like that involves the number 35 between 1st June and 31st July.
Be that a 3.5km/mile run/walk, holding a plank for 3.5 minutes, walking up and down your stairs 35 times. Or maybe something less physical, like baking 35 cakes, completing 35 crosswords, some knitting, painting, quizzing – there are no restrictions (other than those imposed by UK government at the time!)
PLUS if you can feature flamingos in your chosen activity somehow, that would be fantastic!
Decide on your activity, and make a pledge £5 per person, or £10 per family to support the charity at a time when donations are needed more than ever.
About the Woodland House Appeal
"Our hospital cares for over 2,000 grieving mums and dads every year who may have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. Every loss is a devastating and uniquely personal experience, but at the moment the space in which our expert bereavement midwives have to hold heartbreaking conversations doesn't reflect the significance of each family's loss. News is delivered in cramped quiet rooms, often on the maternity ward or in busy outpatient areas, and our patients repeatedly speak of feeling rushed and of having nowhere to go after receiving devastating news. Woodland House will change this. It will be a brand-new, purpose-built, centre away from the hustle and bustle of the main hospital, where families can spend time together in safe, secure and serene surroundings before they feel ready to face the world again. We need to raise £3.5million to make Woodland House a reality".
