Story
On Sunday 4th October I will be running my 20th London Marathon virtually around Bedford - it's not how I imagined running number 20 but in these weird and scary times I feel it's fitting that number 20 will be rather special and unique! I'll be running alone around Bedford dressed in my usual Dizzyfizzy outfit with helium balloons - my route takes me along some very busy roads so I may look rather ridiculous!
In May 2019 my Godsister Amy and her husband Matt had a gorgeous baby boy called Rory. At four & half months old they noticed he had a lazy eye and he was diagnosed with a brain tumour called Medulloblastoma, an aggressive type of high grade cancer rarely seen in children of his age. He underwent major brain stem surgery to biopsy and partially resect the tumour and then began an intensive and gruelling chemotherapy regime with the aim of fighting the remaining cancerous tissue in the brain.
Horrifically Rory's second round of chemotherapy went horribly wrong and he was admitted to PICU on Christmas day 2019. Their little warrior spent a brave two and a half weeks fighting for his life but passed away peacefully on Saturday 11th January 2020.
Through this heartbreaking time they have been supported so brilliantly by CLIC Sargent who have help them through some of their darkest moments. Due to Covid-19 many charities have lost a large amount of money due to loss of fundraising events such as the London Marathon, a subject of which I have spoken about on the Times Radio. CLIC Sargent lost around £800,000 in donations from that one event alone and have lost 60% of all their donations so far this year - it is this wonderful charity that I will be running number 20 for.
I know I ask often for sponsorship and I'm very aware times are hard at the moment in our crazy world so please please do not feel you have to sponsor me, I just feel I should always try and raise something as the smallest amounts make a difference. So if you would like to sponsor Rory's Team it would make the world of difference to families like Amy's as the words cancer and child should never exist together!!
