Story
Adam, my nephew and Matt & Tom's cousin, died, aged 15, in May 2012 following a 3 year battle against cancer.
When Adam knew he was going to die he was adament that he was not going back into hospital. That is when Julie & Danny first contacted Chestnut Tree House and met Karen, the CTH Nurse, who ended up looking after Adam until the end. Karen became part of the family's daily lives over the last 2 months of Adam's life.
Karen administered drugs, coordinated hospital & GP visits and also spent time talking, reassuring and comforting Julie, Danny & Sophie. She cared for the whole family, not just Adam.
One funny story was when Adam's pet rabbit bit through his medication line and while Danny frantically held the line together Julie called Karen who rushed over to fix a new line.
Thanks to Karen's dedicated support Adam had a peaceful and pain-free death at home.
Karen is just one of a great team of nurses at Chestnut Tree House providing invaluable care to sick children.
Running my first half-marathan at my age is not the greatest idea I have had but when Matt told me & Tom he wanted to do this for Chestnut and in Adam's memory we could not turn down the challenge.
We are grateful for your generous support of a wonderful charity.
