Story
Mum was my best friend - she was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2009 and died in October 2011. Some people in life are very lucky and escape serious illnsses ..sadly mum wasnt one of those and suffered from breast cancer in her 30s , then later heart attacks and finally terminal gall bladder cancer .Unlike many mum never complained ..she was frightened , she was in pain and she was upset but in her own inimitable fashion she just got on with it. Marie Curie recognises the needs of individuals , they listen , are patient and practical and ensure that the lives of those with terminal illnesses are as fullfilling as they can be right to the end .This support and kindness enabled mum to remain almost totally independant throughout her illness which following her nursing career was hugely important to her. The Marie Curie hospice in Edinburgh were simply fantastic - mum came shopping with me in a wheelchair a week before she died , she had her cats visit her in the ward , she was watching corrie norrie till the end - she lived as normal a life as possible thanks to the skills and human kindness shown by every person we had the privaledge to meet there. So I decided in my own small way to try and give something back and am trekking in Cuba in November to raise £3,000 for Marie Curie so that the charity can continue to support others like mum who deserve only the very best in heartbreaking circumstances. If you would like to support me and my fundraising for Marie Curie it would mean so very much - I will never be able to thank them enough ....Fiona x
