Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I know I have technically reached the target I was asked to achieve, but why stop there? It is such a good cause - I hope you will still help?
Most of you will know I have been having treatment for breast cancer since January. It has all gone very well and the future looks bright - not least because of the support I have had from The Fountain Centre. They provide the friendship and help we all need to keep the spirit strong while we are dealing with radio- and chemo-therapy. Some of their volunteers provide therapies like reflexology and acupuncture, to help with side-effects and stress; they provide a specialist library and a wig bank; and they are great listeners. It is an oasis, situated just above all the wards and machines in St Lukes Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford - you can see more about their work at http://www.fountaincentre.org/.
I'm immensely grateful for what they have done for me, so I'm joining a group of volunteers on a fund-raising walk - over 100 miles from O Cebreiro to Santiago de Compostella, in Northern Spain, 18-27 September 2010. The Cathedral of St James in Santiago has been a place of pilgrimage since the early middle ages and the Pilgrim's Way now has World Heritage status (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Way_of_St._James). This would have been a big challenge for me even if I had been fully fit - but it is great to have such a goal to aim for. I do hope you will be able to help me reach my target of £2000.
