We use surfing and peer mentoring to transform the lives of young people

Story

Myself and my daughter Cara have decided to walk 22 miles of the Cornish costal path by Christmas to raise money for the Wave project. Cara was lucky enough to be able to attend 6 surf therapy sessions with the Wave project in Newquay. Life has been pretty tough for her over the past few years and she has been unable to attend any activities, even ones she enjoys. However The Wave Project was just great as there were so many lovely volunteers supporting her and she enjoyed being in the water so much. The  sessions have really helped her confidence, it was the highlight of her week and all the children just looked so happy and carefree in the water.  After the course, the young people can join the regular surf club sessions which help so many struggling children but they need more funding to run these sessions.

About the Wave Project Fundraiser

We need to raise £22k for 2022 by the end of January. Next year, 100 surf club sessions will cost £15,000 to surf schools plus the cost of core staff for those sessions, it would be fantastic to know we have the money to be able to be able to commit to these sessions.Whilst this might seem an unrealistic challenge but we really believe we can do it if we all pull together. We have 7000 volunteers, 1012 surf club parents/carers and 2039 referrers in The Wave Project, and we really need your help with this. We're going to use the "22 Challenge" to raise awareness about the dilemma we've got, and ask people to challenge themselves to 22 different things e.g. going for 22 cold water dips, 22 surfs, having 22 people to a coffee morning, walking 22 miles of coast path. We'd love to see your ideas!A little about Wave Project incase you've not heard of us... Wave Project is a registered charity that supports children and young people who experience a range of physical and mental health issues, social deprivation or social isolation. They are referred and can attend our courses and surf clubs and are supported through surfing to build confidence and self-esteem, develop resilience, and make friends. Find out more
