Story
Last Saturday afternoon, 5th October, I registered to run the Brussels Marathon and the next day I did it. I ran 26.2 miles / 42 km in 4 hours and 3 minutes. It was a moment of complete madness and I won't be doing it again!
Needless to say the complete lack of planning means that nothing was organised before Sunday, least of all a training program, but I know I would love to do some good as a result of my foolish act if it is at all possible!
I would like to raise some money for 'The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust'. Charlie Waller was a friend who committed suicide while suffering from depression, at the age of 28. In 1998 his family set up a Trust in order to educate young people on the importance of staying mentally well and how to do so. Over the years the Trust has grown into an independent charity that works with partners across the health service, in education and the private sector throughout the UK, as well as alongside other charities with similar aims and backgrounds. This is a charity that focuses on prevention rather than acting when the crisis has already occurred. It has trained many therapists who are able to provide expert evidence based treatments. One of the Trust's projects has been the set up of the website 'Students against Depression'. The Trust also provides talks, training and materials all of which aim to:
- enable young people to look after their mental wellbeing
- help people to recognise the signs of depression in themselves and others so they know when to seek help
- ensure expert and evidence-based help is available when people need it
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. If you make a donation, JustGiving will send your money directly to the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
