Story

I will be swimming the Solent from Gosport to Ryde on the 8th August 2022 in memory of the wonderful, positive, brave Nick Decalmer who lived with MND for 7 years and left us far too young aged 43. I had the privilege of getting to know Nick and his amazing wife Julia and their gorgeous dog Spica (see photo above) during their regular visits to the Isle of Wight. Julia has become the most special of friends (and swim pals) and so I wanted to dedicate this swim to Nick and to Julia. Money raised will go to the Ian Pratt MND Foundation who's mission is to 'bring joy and put a smile on the face of those living with this arduous disease every day'.

Although I'm a (fairly) regular sea swimmer, this challenge is way outside my comfort zone:

  1. I'll be out of my depth and too far from land for comfort!! Yikes.
  2. Jellyfish!! Yikes.
  3. One of the busiest shipping lanes in the UK!! Yikes.
  4. Very strong tides!! Yikes.
  5. It's cold (for me)!!
  6. It's the furthest I'll have ever swum in the sea (5k+ depending on tides)

You get the picture......  your support would be appreciated : )
