Story

I feel lucky, it may sound like a weird opening line for a fundraising page but here goes:

Last week I got to play Fireman Sam with Archie, 3 years old with an abundance of energy, a cheeky smile and a hell of a lot to say.  His energy is infectious and I came away giggling and full of stories of the things he was coming out with.

Last week I got to drink gin and tonic and dance around Brixton academy with my beautiful friend Katie.   Always a good time to be had once the music starts to play.

I feel incredibly lucky for these experiences but they are always tainted with bitterness.  Why?  Because my friend Tom should be having these experiences.  Tom should be able to play Fireman Sam with his son and drink gin and tonics with his wife.

Tom (Mooro) was just 35, he was Head of Commercial Enterprises at the Premier League, he was a loving husband, father and friend.  Never one to boast Tom had achieved so much, but more importantly he had so much more to give.  Tom was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in Sept 2013 and started chemo on his 35th birthday.  Sadly he died just a few months later on 23 January 2014.

It goes without saying that I miss Tom, that Katie and Archie’s lives will never be the same again so on Sunday 22nd Feb I am running the Brighton Half Marathon with Katie.  Another experience I feel lucky to be a part of and with Tom being such a keen sportsman a tinge of bitterness that he is missing out.

We are raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, funding research to stop more people dying of blood cancer or developing blood cancer in the first place so that more people can continue to have those life experiences, so they can be the lucky ones.
