Having not learnt to cycle as a child and then coming to realise I would get left behind on family activities when my kids learnt to cycle, I started wobbling around on a bike up and down our driveway about 5 yrs ago. Despite my best efforts I remain the butt of any cycling jokes, admittedly not undeserving because I am still a bit wobbly and lacking in confidence.

2yrs ago my friend suggested we do the 26mile Moonwalk, I enjoyed the physical challenge and the training and felt the benefit to my physical health. so now we set ourselves a physical challenge every year. Last year's was an outdoor swim but unfortunately it got cancelled due to blue green algae. This year I decided on a cycle challenge .

The route is a 95.5 mile stretch of Hadrians cycleway.The date is 25/26 june. I've roped in a few friends so now we have 2 teams. The women are cycling from Ravenglass to Warwick Bridge [just beyond Carlisle] over 2 days and the men are doing the reverse route. You might think this would end all the jokes..that had been my intention, but my crashes in training mean that even if I complete this course I will never escape the mockery. My most spectacular crash landed me in the canal [ so I got an outdoor swim after all]!

Being a GP the local hospice is a wonderful resource for our community and I felt I would like to use this challenge to support it.

Our team name is  Blood Sweat and Tyres which I can tell you feels like a true reflection of the training!

 30/6/2011   we did it. yes it was a hard slog. yes i can still sit down...just about. everyone enjoyed it and we all felt it was a challenge and have a sense of achievement. there was great team spirit and the weather was reasonabley kind not too much rain and not too much sunshine. thanks for your support, will update the totals when all the money is in!
