Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Recently, 2 incidents occurred in the world that made many of us stop and think; I want to act too!
The first was the story of a young girl gunned down for speaking about her desire for an education; the second a young girl violently gang raped and left for dead because she was a girl. Only one of these stories has a happy ending.
'Plan works for children and their communities to help realise children’s rights. We work across a range of sectors, including education, health, child protection, child participation, economic security and water and sanitation.'
As Friday 8th March is International Women's Day I have chosen this date to take action for these young women; I will be having my head shaved!
So, why a head shave?
I discovered Amisha Ghadiali had done this recently and wrote:
“On the one hand, it's (hair) is a weapon in conflict and a punishment designed to take something away from women and then on the other it is a symbol of feminism, boldness and personal empowerment.”
There is no skill or effort in having my head shaved, no bravery or courage required but it is a symbol of solidarity and strength, of feminism and equality.
I hope you feel able to support this cause and donate as much as you can.
Just £30 could help a girl to receive training on sexual health and rights, early pregnancy and HIV prevention in Bolivia
Just £18 could pay for a new set of textbooks for 3 school pupils in Togo
It costs just £143 to train a teacher in Zambia!
