Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Those who know me know that the last few years have been a journey of self discovery whilst fundraising for various charities. It's given me countless opportunities to prove myself and this next part of my journey really will test myself in a whole new way.
When my brother in law Jason got diagnosed with terminal cancer I was in shock. Here was this young mma fighter hitting the gym, eating well and chattering ten to the dozen in excruciating pain with months to live. He was 26!! We talked about his acceptance of death whilst he shuffled about trying to get comfortable like he had a twinge, yet he had a huge tumour in his hip. He had a bone cancer called ewings sarcoma which left him paralysed from the waist down shortly after. That's when I vowed to use my legs and running became who I was as a person. It gave me an identity and it's what I was doing as he took his last breath.
During that time my friends lil boy got leukaemia, he's made a full recovery but just as significantly through my fundraising I met Rob. Rob had had a recent lung collapse and was now giving back. An avid outdoor fanatic who was happiest in the mountains, riding his bikes and doing various outdoor sports. I loved his ethos and he was hugely supportive of my journey so when he too was diagnosed with Sarcoma my heart sank. It hit home hard. The only thing I could do was hope that he could beat it. Sadly he too was given months to live, he did however defie all odds to see out the pandemic and passed away earlier this year. It stills hurts to know that I will never see his mush again. He was in his early 30s and left behind his precious boy Caleb and his family.
This fight for me represents so much more than battling it uut in the ring. It is about the way we honour those who have passed away and the way we honour their memory. It is ok to cry, to mourn and to feel sorrow but we shouldn't make our lives less colourful. We should be trying to live a life that challenges us, inspires ourselves to try harder, be bigger, bolder and more adventurous because any less would be a waste.
If that means in turn we can help more people survive this horrible time eating cancer then it truly is a life well lived. I'm grateful to my body for all it can give.....can you help me please 🙏
