Story

On the 3rd of May we will be taking on the challenge of climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours. All for the purpose of raising enough money to plant 1 million trees in Lebanon.

To find out more about this amazing cause and why we're supporting it by clicking on the 'Please for Trees' link to the left.

Our Challenge:

After flying up to Scotland to collect our transport, we will be starting at the foot of Ben Nevis in Scotland at 5pm and we hope to be back down from the top by 10pm to start the overnight journey to Scarfell Pike in the Lake District.

After hopefully a couple of hours sleep, we will start at dawn to climb the smallest but steepest of our 3 peaks. All being well, we should be in Wales by lunchtime to do our 3rd and final peak, Snowdon, where we will need to dig in and find every ounce of determination (read... energy and blisters!!) to finish by 5pm before we make our weary way back to London.

So, this is what we're doing, but now WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! All the determination and energy for this challenge, is for one reason, and one reason only. We need to raise money to plant one million trees in Lebanon, so please dig deep, send this to your friends and family and engage them to join us in making a difference to such a fanstastic cause.

This is an amazing team, so please join us in making a difference!!!

About the charity

A pioneering collaboration between Diageo Global Travel & Middle East (GTME) and Lebanon’s Association for Forest Development and Conservation (AFDC) to restore some of Lebanon’s most degraded landscapes. Diageo GTME established an in-market company (IMC) in Beirut 15 years ago and Lebanon and its people are close to our hearts. Lebanon has been famous through history for its forests. Even its flag features a cedar tree. Sadly, modern day Lebanon has lost much of its forest cover due to a range of factors including urban expansion, overgrazing, abusive felling, agricultural expansion, and more recently, devastating forest fires and the effects of climate change. The impact of the loss of forested area on the Lebanese people has been catastrophic. Along with poor air quality leading to increased health problems, desertification of the land caused by erosion of soil and the subsequent loss of arable land and jobs, Lebanon a is now facing a water deficit. It is estimated that a judicious reforestation policy in Lebanon could reduce by 20% water lost directly into the sea; water availability in the country could increase by 50 to 100%. This project aims to increase the country’s forest tree production capacity by creating tree nurseries in Lebanon that will have an annual production capacity of one million trees.
