Kigali to Congo cycle ride · 3 June 2017

Ripple Effect is creating a wave of change in rural Africa. Our farmers learn, grow and sell more, releasing the potential in their land and lives. Then they pass the knowledge on, creating a wave of change across rural Africa.

Story

Having lived and worked overseas for many years and now being based in the UK I recently got the opportunity to keep my hand in the NGO world by becoming a trustee for the charity Send a Cow. To help with fundraising I’m joining one of their trips in June. This trip won’t be like any other as I’ll be spending 4 days cycling through Rwanda’s challenging countryside and will then be able to visit various food security and livelihood programmes. It’ll give me a great perspective of the country recovering following the horrific genocide and enable me to see first hand the difference Send a Cow have made in the community. However taking on this journey won’t be an easy feat by any means. Each day I’ll be cycling between 40-80kms with staggering climbs of up to 1,000m to support the charity’s work. Your generous support will really help motivate me in the coming months with my training to prepare for this tough challenge.

Send a Cow is a International Development charity with a difference. They’ve been working with some of Africa’s poorest families for nearly 30 years, helping over 1.3 million people work their way out of extreme poverty. They provide livestock, tools, seeds and training as part of a programme giving people the hope and means to establish a future for themselves, their families and their wider communities. They are currently delivering our programmes in seven African countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya.
