Story
In 2019 I gave birth to our gorgeous little boy, Mallory. But it was far from the birth I'd hoped for. Mal was a large baby and sufferered a shoulder dystocia. I still find it impossible to put into words what happened and how it still affects both me and Andy (and have written and rewritten this a number of times now). Mal is a happy, friendly, and best of all, healthy little dude now, and we're so grateful to the maternity team at Macclesfield hospital for their calm, professional and quick-thinking actions that meant that Mal was delivered as safely as possible, and for the neonatal team's incredible care and speedy reaction referring him for cooling treatment at Arrowe Park hospital and the amazing care there...without this, Mal may well not be the fantastic little boy he is today. Not every story of a should dystocia birth ends this well. Globally, mothers and babies die, babies suffer broken bones and nerve damage, many find themselves on the spectrum of cerebral palsy.
So, whilst I hope to fundraise in future for both Macclesfield maternity and neonatal units and the special care baby unit at Arrowe Park, first I'd like to raise as much as I can for the essential training for the maternity teams that help teach them how to cope with and limit the impact of shoulder dystocia births on babies and their mothers.

Oh! Yes, what am I going to do...so, amongst a bundle of other things parents don't want to hear, we were warned Mal might not walk...so I'm going to attempt to walk as much of the (modern route) Limestone Way in a day. 26 miles...ambitious at the best of times, but with no training, and my dodgy hips...it'll be a challenge. Though, my thinking is, if I survived that birth with all it's complications, then this should be a piece of cake right...???
