On 29th August 2015 I am undertaking the challenge of walking and the occasional light jog 100k from London to Cambridge with Tracey. For those of you who know me well you know that this will require a lot of physical effort! We will be armed with head torches as we aim to finish in under 20 hours. This will mean walking late into the early hours of the next day! To put it into perspective, 100k is the equivalent of 2 1/2 marathons!
I am doing this to raise money for Mind - the mental health charity. I chose this charity because 1 in 3 of us experience mental health issues in our life time, this can be with many issues from bereavement, PTSD, post-natal depression and anxiety. Mind provide a valuable bridge between feeling alone and the help the nhs can provide. They also lend support to those who know someone struggling.
We all know someone who has struggled in some way with their mental health. You might just not know!
I know my target seems large, but £500 must be raised to be allowed to enter the event! So please every penny counts. In perspective of the amount raised:
£8.70 gives a life line to someone in desperate need of support by funding the Mind infoline team to take their call.
£30 helps mind work with the Government to promote mental health needs, battle the stigma and improve services.
£150 can fund a local support group
£250 can buy the equipment needed to run an art therapy support group, so people can use art as a healthy outlet.
£500 can keep the legal advice service open for a day.
All of these things may seem small, but to someone with mental health issues they are a lifeline. Thank you.
