Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I originally decided to run the London Marathon 4 years ago and have been lucky enough to get in through the 2018 London Marathon ballot.

This will be a huge personal challenge for me but more importantly this is something I wanted to do in memory of some very dear people.

3 of my best friends have sadly lost a parent to this horrible illness. Maggie, Kathy and Dave all sadly lost their lives through different battles with cancer and although they have been taken from us far too soon, are always in our thoughts.

By raising awareness and much needed pennies  towards the Dorset County Hospital, Cancer Appeal fund, I hope to help future patients and their families going through similar, awful life threatening changes.

The Cancer Appeal is part of an exciting £9million development bringing radiotherapy services to Dorchester for the first time. This partnership project with Poole Hospital was made possible thanks to a generous donation from Poole businessman Robert White.

The Charity’s Cancer Appeal is raising £1.75 million to support the provision of radiotherapy services at Dorset County Hospital. To date, over 80% of the target amount has been raised. The Appeal is funding a Cancer and Haematology Outpatients Department which is being built on top of the radiotherapy unit. It will provide rooms for counselling and consultancy and spaces for patient support and education. The Cancer Appeal will also fund major improvements to the existing Chemotherapy unit.

I am sure all of us have at some point  been affected by cancer, either personally or by knowing someone going through cancer treatment, and with your help and support, we can make the lives of cancer patients and their families a little easier at this worrying time.

When this unit is up and running, some patients currently travelling to Poole Hospital for treatment will be able to be treated in DCH, much closer to home making it much easier for them and their families.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my reasons for running the London Marathon 2018. Please donate no matter how small. It all makes a difference.
