Story
I have never done anything like this before; but I have been inspired by a wonderful little girl called Sofia and her family. Sofia is one of the most beautiful little girls I have ever met. She cannot communicate due to this devastating and (currently) incurable disease known as Rett Syndrome. This disease suddenly stopped her from talking, walking and using her hands at the age of 18months! She was refused from several schools in Dubai but we accepted her into ours. She has been gracing us with her presence for almost two years. I have seen her smile, make friends and communicate with her wonderful eyes. But this is not enough... she needs a cure.
That is why I recently ran my first 10k last week and raised 2800AED for her charity One Day Sofia with the help from our parents. I was amazed at the response and sponsors I received. This is why I've chosen to run the RAK Half marathon on February 13th; being a teacher, I believe every child deserves a chance to enjoy life and Sofia and others with Rett Synrdome are no exception! That is why I am doing this and many other events along the way, I have chosen all proceeds to go towards the organisation Reverse Rett in the UK. They are an organisation who are working relentlessly to find a cure; when they do, it'll help Sofia and those around the world with Rett Syndrome. Thousands of other girls and women have this and need our help to find a cure; maybe one day they will be able to talk and walk freely again. Until then I shall be dedicating as much of my time as I can to run the RAK Half Marathon and many other runs. So far I have a 12k Asics run on the 12th January, RAK on 13th February, Spartan Sprint 20th Feb and then the Sand Pit 10k run with obstacles!
