Story
The FIA wholeheartedly supports FIRE AID and the amazing work they do.
FIRE AID recycles essential, but decommissioned fire and rescue equipment and donates this to emergency services overseas alongside professional training.
These fire fighters lack even the most basic equipment to protect themselves and their communities. We have witnessed volunteer fire fighters working in flip flops without any personal protective equipment (PPE), whilst in other areas of the world a single vehicle (over 45 years old) is used to service a town of over 350,000 people. The vehicle has no ladders, road traffic cutting equipment or any other modern fire-fighting equipment. Would you want to work under these conditions?
FIRE AID is a UK based charity established in 2014. It is an umbrella organization, bringing together its 33 member organizations to deliver humanitarian aid to fire & rescue services worldwide. Our members have been working in this field for over 25 years and together have a wealth of experience across 53 countries implementing humanitarian projects.
We provide a unique database for sharing ethical and sustainable donations of fire and rescue equipment to our members. Both UK and international fire and rescue services and suppliers are able to donate perfectly useable (but decommissioned) equipment via this database, saving it from being scrapped and recycling it to save lives overseas.
All equipment donations are accompanied by expert training, delivered by volunteer fire fighters and medics. Our aim is to facilitate the sharing of best practice, expertise, training programs, project funding and equipment donations to form joint projects and partnerships between our members.
Our projects actively save lives whilst protecting frontline emergency workers. For example, in Moldova we have provided fire fighters with over 1,500 sets of PPE. Whilst in Ukraine our 12 Road Traffic Collision (RTC) cutting sets have extricated over 144 people during 2020 alone.
FIRE AID delivers a wealth of projects, including community fire safety, burns prevention, search and rescue, road traffic collision, basic fire-fighting and much more.
Whilst we rely on a vast network of volunteers to provide training and are donated fire and rescue equipment we still need to raise funds to transport the equipment to where it is needed. COVID-19 has seriously impacted our fundraising efforts, if you feel like you want to contribute to our worthy projects we would be very grateful.
