Story
This October I am running the 40th London Marathon - MY WAY!
Despite swearing I'd never run a marathon after battling gale force winds at Edinburgh in 2019, when a spot came available to run the London Marathon for Beanstalk temptation kicked in. I felt thrilled and so privileged to be able to be part of the 40th marathon, and raise money for Beanstalk.... and then 2020 happened!
In April I trained up to 17 miles pre-lockdown, then continued to run on a treadmill and in 250m laps around my house. I then supported the 2.6 challenge and completed 2 half marathons over the original marathon weekend - running a total of 150 laps around my house!
In July with the promise of a new date, training picked up again. As schools and nurseries reopened I was able to get out running around Dorset, exploring the Purbecks, forests and heathland all in the name of social distancing (and avoiding the beaches!!) Training has very much kept me sane through the year, and given me opportunity to find some beautiful new places too.
The 40th race will now be VIRTUAL - and I'm so excited to be part of it. I will be running from Wareham to Hengistbury Head (with a few extra bits tacked on) on Sunday 4th October, starting at 8.30am at Wareham Quay. I'll be running with a friend, and if you are in the area PLEASE come and give us a cheer on - especially on Bournemouth sea front - we will need it!!
Charities have been extremely hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, so your support is crucial to charities like Beanstalk - please give what you can!
The charity do amazing work supporting literacy in schools for underprivileged children. It's so important children have support in their reading, and this charity help provide much needed volunteers who spend time reading with children, improving their literacy skills and in many children spurring on a love of books.
Thank you!
