I am running the 2019 London Marathon on April 28th in memory of Shalini Dhuria van Hoek.
Shalini suddenly passed away on January 2, 2018 at the age of 43. What was originally thought to be a brain bleed, turned out to be an extremely rare clot. Shalini died only a few days after complaining of a headache during the holidays.
I met Shalini for the first time at a wedding in the summer of 2013. I could immediately tell that she could bring joy to anyone she met. I was blown away by her and though I only knew Shalini for a short time, it feels like I have known her for much longer. I am incredibly proud to run in her honor.
I am raising money to support Brain Research UK because I believe that it is possible to accelerate the progress of critical brain research (even incrementally!) through our individual contributions.
My goal is to raise USD $3,000
I'm running the race for Shalini, for all of those who loved and were inspired by her, and for everyone whose lives have been changed forever due to brain-related illness and tragedy.
This will be my first, ever marathon race! I'm excited to run it in a city that I love, with a team that I am inspired by, and for a cause that I care about.
Thank you for reading this and thank you for your support!
