Story

This is a charity very close to my heart as my twin boys Harley spent the first 3 months of his life there, and Fraiser the majority of the first 7 months. My boys where born 7 May 2010 at 31 weeks Harley weighing 3lb 14 and Fraiser 3lb.

During Harleys stay in The Oliver Fisher Unit he required a few blood transfusions and support with his breathing, but it was a matter of building up his weight and becoming strong enough to come home, unlike for his brother. A few weeks in to Fraisers life he became extremely unwell, he had something called
Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) http://preemies.about.com/od/preemiehealthproblems/f/nec.htm
Fraiser spent a few weeks at Kings college hospital when first diagnosed and then returned to The Oliver Fisher Unit as they thought he was recovering without any surgical intervention around 2 weeks later he then became extremely unwell, he was moved straight in to intensive care and rushed back to Kings within a few hours, the following morning he went in for emergency surgery where part of his bowel had to be removed he then needed a stoma and was able to return to The Oliver Fisher Unit after a few weeks. During this time he contracted staphylococcus and also having problems with his liver due to the concoction of drugs he was on. He had many blood transfusions throughout this time also.

Mid September we was extremely lucky to be able to bring Fraiser home for the first time ever. We had booked a family holiday late 2009 which was the reason they let us bring him home, we spent a week at home and a week in the west country with the day after returning home Fraiser going in to Kings College hospital for his final operation to reverse his stoma. Even then he decided it wasn’t going to be a straight in straight out, he made sure to take his time recovering and worrying his family! Late October Fraiser was finally well enough to join his family at home where he belongs. He has since been well and is a extremely cheeky and healthy little boy, just like his brother Harley!

I have decided to raise money for The Oliver Fisher Unit, who have been extremely supportive throughout the entire time and without their specialist care i may not be the very proud mum i am to my gorgeous boys. Words cannot express how grateful i am for all of their hard work.
