After five years of continuous conflict, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen is the worst in the world. 20 million Yemenis need help securing food and a staggering 14 million people are in acute humanitarian need. 230 of Yemen’s 333 districts are now food insecure. For the first time in Yemen, assessments confirm the presence of catastrophic levels of hunger.
7.4 million people, nearly a quarter of the entire population, are malnourished, many acutely so.In winter, while the climate varies greatly depending on location, changing weather can bring huge challenges to already vulnerable Yemeni families. Rainfall comes in irregular, heavy torrents and the country experiences coolness with frequent frost. Temperatures can plummet from 22 degrees Celsius to below freezing at its coldest. This winter, nearly 400,000 people are at critical risk of facing loss of life due to both the current crisis and upcoming severity of frost this season.
