Hello!
Welcome to my Marathon Des Sables sponsorship page. As some of you may know, Tom and I will be heading off to Morocco on 26th March to take part in the 24th MDS, a 151 mile ultra-marathon staged in the southern Sahara Desert. It's a fantastic challenge that I'm really looking forward to, and I hope that you can show your support by giving what you can to the great charity, 'Sue Ryder Care'.
The MDS is widely regarded as the toughest footrace on Earth, and was designed by an ex foreign legion soldier to be an equal test of mental determination and physical endurance. Taking place over 6 stages averaging a standard marathon per day. We'll be battling against extreme temperatures (typically 35-45˚C), towering dunes, frequent sandstorms and tattered feet, culminating in a grueling 51 mile day/night stage. We will be totally self sufficient throughout, carrying around 10 kilos of food, equipment and medical supplies.
The challenge is not to be underestimated and has claimed two lives in it's 23 year history, with on average a quarter of entrants forced to retire through injury, dehydration or exhaustion each year.
Lot's of people have been asking us recently why we are going to put ourselves through all of that? All I can say really is that it's good to push your limits every now and then, and if everything goes to plan it should be an incredible experience. Hopefully all of you will be kind enough to wish us luck and donate something below to Sue Ryder Care, who are an amazing organisation and helped my Aunt Victoria and my Grandad Jeff so much.
Thank you
Felix
