Story
PAPYRUS is the national Charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK, in 2018 over 1800 young people took their own lives. They provide confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person's life through their helpline HOPELINEUK. To see how your money can help:
- £5 can pay for a life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK
- £20 can pay for a resource pack aimed at supporting teachers
- £65 can keep the helpline, text and email services running for an hour
- £200 covers the cost of one person attending Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
We are aiming to raise a minimum of £2000 between us (but hoping for more than this), which could cover the cost of 7 people attending ASIST, alongside running the PAPYRUS services for nearly 10 hours. As you can see, PAPYRUS really does make the most out of every donation, so please donate as generously as you can !
Now for our background, and why we are supporting this charity. Both of us have previously worked closely with PAPYRUS, helping to organise/fundraise at university for them by running the UK's largest student boxing event, Aggression Sessions. This raises ~£30-40k annually for the charity, a substantial amount that goes a long long way to helping struggling young people. Unfortunately this year the event was unable to go ahead, and PAPYRUS lost out on this considerable amount of money during a period where the mental health of the younger population was at a serious low. Regardless of the immense strain they have been under, PAPYRUS have been working wonders throughout the pandemic, and we are aiming to raise as much as possible to support them as they keep this incredible work up as everything starts opening up again.
Thank you to everyone who gave the time to read this all, and we hope we have given justice to the amazing work that PAPYRUS is doing. Feel free to have a quick look at the website for further information: https://www.papyrus-uk.org/. We encourage donations of any size, as every little really does help in this case !
Much love,
Rob & Felix xx
