Story
I am proud to support mothers2mothers (www.m2m.org). Founded in 2001, it has been unleashing the power of African women since then, and that is unstoppable! Frontline health workers, Mentor Mothers, are women living and working within their communities who provide unstinting support to break the cycle of HIV transmission. Every day, across sub-Saharan Africa, these amazing women continue to connect with their clients, even with COVID-19 restrictions. They walk and cycle to reach people who cannot access facilities and to make sure that women and their families are not left behind as we move to an HIV free generation. So far, they have reached over 11 million women and children under the age of 2 with direct support and for the past 6 years they have achieved virtual elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV. An HIV-free generation is possible, and being born now. Together we can make sure that continues and that every child can THRIVE and that young girls and women understand that they have the power to control their own bodies and health.
This year's Cycle2Zero fundraising challenge is a little different. The team can't travel to Uganda but for the first time ever a global community can come together to cycle, walk, row to raise vital funds to support m2m's frontline health heroes.
If you need any more inspiration, click here https://m2m.org/power/ to see and hear from the amazing Betty, one of our adolescent clients in Uganda, who explains why the role of her m2m mentor is so important in her life.
Just £10 could pay for 800 texts for vulnerable adolescents to receive information on HIV and safer sex – information which could shape their future. Together, we can ensure that every girl feels like #ShesGotThePower!
So that's why I am delighted to join our global walking team, the Speed Wobbles! Our goal is to each walk 300,000 steps (about 230km) by October 25th - our Mentor Mothers keep going and so will we!
If you can make any donation that would be amazing and if you make it now it will be DOUBLED by a group of generous donors.
Thank you everyone x
UPDATE 19 October - I have raised my step challenge to 400,000.
