Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To be honest, I never thought I would do this. Well, I guess I was wrong, wasn't I.

I am a lawyer, mother of two extraordinary boys. I ride my bike everyday to work, with the sunshine or the rain, it does not matter. My kids are on my bike with me, every single day. I drop them off to school and then I head to our breathtaking luminous building of DLA Piper in the heart of Milan, Italy.

When my day is (almost) over, I ride my bike back home, where I have one certainty. My kids are waiting for me there. Most of the time they had a terrific day. Sometimes they just had a regular day. Seldom a major disaster happened. Yet, luckily they never felt the pain of being hungry or thirsty. They never felt the sadness of being alone, with no warm embrace or a good night kiss. Apart for when they had chicken pox (and not even then), they never lacked the energy to be able to play or just be curious about the world and go bite it.

Children are the most crucial fertilizer of our society. Not all kids are as lucky as mine.

Italy is far from being a perfect place to grow up and become an adult. However, it is somewhat safer than being born today in Siria, Sudan, Republic Democratic of Congo, just to mention a few of the countries affected by wars, poverty and just plain and simple inhumanity. So my kids were just luckier to be borne here, from a mother that at most will ride her bike to work and does not really risk her life everyday to provide for them.

So, why am I participating in the Unicef Global Cycle Challenge?

The first inconvenient truth is that I was really dying to wear my "Steph Curry - GSWarriors" jersey in the office during a working day

The second reason, is that  I welcome all sorts of opportunities to give a very small contribution so that other kids can just have hopes, if not for real happiness, at least for different perspectives.

I know what you are thinking: "you will not change the world; it is just a drop in the ocean; who knows where the money will end up to; those kids need aid on field (...)" and I could continue.

Well, on the reliability of UNICEF I think we can all agree. So far, and I kind of looked that up, no scandals involved UNICEF for rubbing money or financing militaries. So, that takes care of your concerns on where the money will end up to. If you really want to investigate that, take a look at this website (http://www.unicef.org/), make your own due diligence, if you like but just do not turn me down without doing something. If turns out I was wrong, I am more than prepared to give back all the donations I receive.

As to the rest of your concerns, I can just succinctly say that these are just lame excuses. You do not need to get up your ass and do something, I will do that for you.

I will ride the bike in the office as a member of the most powerful and hot team of DLA Piper Italy, the Hot Wheels, together with my colleagues (Sofia, Sara, Giulia, Annamaria, Aurelia, Veronica, Danilo, Raffaele and Pietro). No matter where you are, on 28 September 2016 you will see the fire from our "Hot Wheels".

We will compete against other DLA Piper offices in Europe and Asia Pacific. The team that will collect more donations for Unicef and the team that will ride more distance will win the Global Unicef Cycle Challenge.

Please make your donation to either my Justgiving page, just by clicking on the relevant icon. Or donating through the Hot Wheels Justgiving page (https://www.justgiving.com/dlahotwheels).

I am a litigator and I usually like to win. This competition is by far more important than any litigation ever.

Make a contribution. Be a part of it.

Just do it.
