We help people with ME/CFS to understand and survive their illness

Story

I’ve been a keen runner and running club member since 2006. I was flying clocking times of 19 mins for 5K, and 1hr30 for a half marathon. I was at the peak of my fitness in 2009 when started experiencing debilitating health problems in which in 2010 led to diagnosis of CFS/ME. I am raising funds to help others and fund research into ME, which affects over 250,000 people in the UK. Just because it is at times an unseen illness doesn't mean it can't be life changing

This diagnosis was life changing and it slammed on the brakes for someone who was very active at work and leisure. Exhaustion, Muscle Pain, Insomnia, Frequent Illness and even the dreaded ‘Brain Fog’ when you are so confused you can’t think and complete basic tasks without support, all took over my life. As a well educated professional my world started to change so much so that I had to end full time work as a teacher last year, and had change drastically any exercise.

Recovery has taken nearly 4 years so far and with the support of my family, friends and my fiancé Emma I am on the road to recovery. I now work on the motto of ‘Completing not Competing’

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
