Story
On the 22nd August heaven gained another angel, 32 year old, Sarah Bennett who had been fighting cancer for the past 3 years. Sarah was inspirational in her fight, and never once did she let the smile drop from her face. Even throughout treatment Sarah still took part in many fund raising events, and helped raised thousands for Macmillan Nurses, and St Lukes Hospice.
On October 18th I set off for a 2 week trek to Everest Base Camp reaching 5,364 metres above sea level and 50% less oxygen than ground level. The trek will just be myself and a guide to ensure I don't get lost!!
I would like to do this in memory of Sarah and take this opportunity to raise some funds for a charity that was a huge part of hers and many more of our loved ones lives, Macmillan Nurses.
How your support will help...
£15 could pay for 32 copies of The Cancer Guide.
£100 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for four hours
£951 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week.
£1474 could operate the phone service for 2 hours - enough time to answer 54 calls and emails from people who need emotional, practical or financial support.
I am funding the cost of the trip myself so any funds raised go solely to charity. So please help support me, in supporting those, that supported Sarah and many more of our loved ones.
I am also raising funds for 2 other charities which are much smaller and local charities that cannot afford the overheads to be part of Just giving or Virgin. They are 2 charities that have been a huge part of my brother Paul's life. He was finally diagnosed with Aspergers at the age of 18, after some difficult times, and I would like to take this opportunity to also raise funds for them. If you would like to help them please contact me privately, as it will need to be cash or cheque which I know is difficult, and we can talk about how to do this.
* Noah’s Ark Playscheme (Hertsmere Mencap):
Playscheme providing respite care service for families of children with disabilities, in the Easter and Summer holidays.
Noah’s Ark Playscheme provided Paul with the opportunity to work initially as a volunteer and then as a paid member of staff, since that diagnosis. This was a turning point for Paul and opened up his world.
* 4 AM for Arts & Music (Community Interest Company)
A specialist and inclusive provision for all abilities developing a positive effect on people’s quality of life.
4AM for Arts and Music has given Paul the opportunity and support to grow as a musician and composer. They encourage him to believe he has a wonderful skill and ability to not only play piano but also compose tunes.
