We help the hospital offer a better future to seriously ill children across the UK

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Matt, Gaz, Andy, Michael and Pete's JustGiving page.

Great Ormond Street perform miracles everyday saving and improving the lives of brave little children and babies who are unfortunately enough to have suffered serious illness or injuries.
Despite how magical the doctors, nurses and facilities are down at GOSH, no parent or family would ever want to be in a position where they'd have to use their services.
Unfortunately our family have not once but twice required the help of those wonderful people down at Great Ormond Street.
In September 2009 little Millie was born into this world with Bilateral Renal Dysplasia and Chronic Kidney Disease. This basically meant that her Kidneys were not forming properly and in fact both kidneys together were not for filling the required function of one normal kidney. As a result she was place immediately into intensive care after birth. Her condition began to deteriorate so much that she was blue lighted all the way to Great Ormond Street. Because of the incredible care and treatment she received there our wonderful little Millie is still here with us and approaching her 9th Birthday. Although she's still not out the woods, she still has to travel to GOSH regularly for check ups as one of her kidneys even to this day is still just the size of a new born babies she is so fun and energetic and it's sickening to think what the outcome may have been had it not been for Great Ormond Street.

In September 2017, young Reggie started to complain of headaches. When regular remedies were failing it was becoming apparent that something was not right. 2 days later things took a turn for the worst as Reggie became more and more unsettled all through the night, not falling asleep until 4am. In the morning Reggie collapsed. No longer being able to bare any weight, Reggie became very vacant and the left hand side of his face had dropped. It was now very apparent that at only 2 years old Reggie had suffered a stroke. After being taken to a local hospital and treated for a type of meningitis, Reggie had a CT scan that showed that the left hand side of his Brain was completely black confirming he had indeed suffered a stroke and a large one too. With the hospital no longer able to treat him Great Ormond Street once again took over and immediately placed him in intensive care. After a few days Reggie was showing more positive signs but after an MRI scan revealed that the swelling had worsened the Doctors and surgeons had to drop the bombshell that if they didn't operate within 24 hours Reggie could die or become practically brain dead.
The next day Reggie had his skull cut and lifted to relieve the swelling. Because of the blood lost in the surgery Reggie also required a blood transfusion but before too long he was finally in the recovery room. He spent the next few day sleeping whilst being pumped with morphine. But gradually as the days past, despite having multiple seizures daily, Reggie began to look up again. He was starting to eat pureed food and was becoming much more alert.
The future for Reggie is still unclear. He still has very little movement along his left side but he's still here and it's thanks to the doctors, nurses and surgeons down at GOSH.

In both cases, although trying to remain positive I'm sure we all thought at one time about the worst case and unthinkable outcome. But Great Ormond Street has given both these beautiful kids the greatest gift ever.
That's why a team of Dad's, Grandads and uncles (Gaz, Matt, Andy, Michael and Pete) have joined forces to cycle 65 miles from London to Southend on the 22nd of July to raise money for this magnificent organisation.
Please spare any change possible to help us raise money for this magical place that changes the fortunes of sick children every day. Because no parent or family should ever have to go through the pain of having a severely sick child, but if they did there is no better place on this planet for them to receive treatment.

Thanks in advance xxx
