Aloha Friends!
Amongst all the atrocities taking place across the world, such as Syria, Burma, and Palestine, I'd like a moment of your time to reflect on a cause just as dire; the drought in East Africa!
The drought affecting the Horn of Africa and East Africa is the worst of its kind in 60 years. It is estimated that up to 12 million people are affected by the drought, close to 2 million are children under 5 years old. As a result of rising food prices, devastated farmlands and failed harvests over 17 million people face food insecurity.
The crisis in the region continues to worsen and the UN has warned that as many as 750,000 people may lose their lives in the coming months.
I have pledged to join a group of friends, and to help raise £6000 to help Islamic Help, a british charity dedicated to helping the needy. We hear the calls of the beautiful little children who are dying as a result of malnutrition, and the mothers who are forced to feed their babies water full of filth, not fit enough for our toilets.
On Aug 31st 2013, I will be climbing what is considered the highest mountain in the British Isles; Ben Nevis. Standing at 1,344 metres above sea level, it will be one of the hardest, yet biggest achievements of my life! And as my peers and friends, i humbly request for your support. Please dig deep and donate however little or much you can. Every last penny will go a long way!
And as it is the month of Ramadan, why not take full advantage and use your zakat to give these families a brighter future!
