Story
I am back once again...putting on my running shoes to raise money for a good cause.
Following the success of 2019/2020's FatBoyRuns where I raised over £2,000 for Mencap by doing a series of events culminating in the 'London' marathon (I had to run it virtually round Nottingham by myself!) I will now be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon and fundraising for Footprints.
Why? In March 2021 we welcomed my second son Alfie into the world. Alfie has Down Syndrome and we have therefore become aware of the amazing work Footprints does to support families such as ours and children like Alfie.
Those of you who know the family connection is why I fundraise for Mencap (search FatBoyRuns84 on here and you will see) - well the connection is going to be even stronger for my fundraising for Footprints!
Over the past 6 months since Alfie's birth, we have met some incredible people as part of the Nottinghamshire Down Syndrome Community and through Footprints.
I want to do what I can to help fundraise for them so they can recover from the impact of the pandemic continue doing their amazing work to improve the lives of children like our Alfie.
For further information about Footprints please see below. We are pleased to let you know they are now back doing in person sessions and Alfie has really enjoyed his first couple of visits.
Any support you can give would be hugely appreciated and make a real direct impact to Footprints. Its only a small charity so donations will go straight to where the money is needed.
I am also planning another fundraiser in 2022...something that I think will be even better/harder than the London Marathon...which I will hopefully, fingers crossed, covid depending, be doing in October 2022.
Thanks for your continued support everyone!
Chris Mitchell - AKA FatBoyRuns.
Footprints families know loneliness and isolation better than most, but during lockdowns and restrictions this feeling has heightened beyond words. They have had to cope with the constant needs of their children with little or no support for the best part of a year. In 2020 Footprints have done as much as they can and offered virtual sessions and phone calls.
We all know though that virtual is no replacement for real contact. A zoom class doesn't give the physical contact a child needs to progress, and a phone call is no replacement for a hug. Footprints future still remains uncertain unless they continue to secure fundraising.
They need to be able to open their doors again when the lockdown ends to help the families who rely on them. Any help with #FundingFootprintsFuture would be amazing and mean they can continue their vital work.
