Story
In 1959/1960, a Bolton legend left the club and went into non-league football despite being an integral part of the England World Cup squad in Sweden in 1958 - the same year that he won an F.A. Cup winners medal. The reasons for this move have been elaborated on in the biography of that legend - Tommy Banks.
Tommy celebrated his 92nd. birthday last November and, despite a few setbacks, is still batting strongly. Like many footballers of that era, Tommy has been affected by dementia. There are a number of our members who are affected similarly. Those of you who have family members suffering from dementia, on whatever level, have witnessed the damage that the illness causes.
We initially mentioned Tommy, a proud native of Farnworth, - his family are organising a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society along with a Just Giving page.
Whilst final times etc. will be confirmed at a later date, the event will take place at Farnworth Cricket Club on Friday June 24th.
If you can put this date into your diary and or help raise funds in some way, the Banks family, in particular, Tommy and Rita, would be greatly appreciative of your efforts.
A true Bolton legend who is helping the community.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
