Story

The Situation Water resources in East Africa are incredibly scarce and are not managed correctly in the region. Due to the effects of climate change, such as common droughts and flooding, water sources are either contaminated or dry. Since surface water is often not sufficiently available during periods of drought, the region has a relatively high level of groundwater. The scarcity and the contamination of water are additionally adding to health problems across the region. Water pollution, lack of sanitation, and poor hygiene is causing an increase in infectious (transferable) and non-infectious (non-transferrable) diseases. How you can help? IDRF, in partnership with local communities in countries like Malawi, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan, is addressing these ongoing issues by building water wells. One water well provides water to 400 people in villages and 5000 people in towns FAQ's can be found over at the IDRF Website Please note: 90% of all proceeds will go directly to water
