Story
The Charity Cup is returning on the afternoon of Saturday 17 November 2018 (an international break), and promises to be bigger and better than ever.
We are raising money for The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. On average, 12 men take their own life every day – more than three times the number of women.
Two of my uncles committed suicide so I personally think it’s a great cause. CALM works to prevent male suicide by providing services for men who are down or in crisis, and by campaigning for culture change so men feel able to seek help.
- 250+ suicides prevented each year
- 5,000 average calls to the helpline per month
- 7,500+ #Mandictionary posters on billboards around the UK, inviting men to redefine what it is to ‘be a man’
- 30,000 people visit our website every month
- 3x increase in public awareness of male suicide rates in the past ten years
How your donation will help:
- £8 can pay for one call that could save a life
- £23 pays for someone to take calls for an hour
- £80 pays for our website for a day
- £160 keeps one phone line open from 5pm to midnight for one evening
- £1,200 runs our entire helpline for an evening, allowing us to take nearly 200 calls a night
- £4,000 can fund an entire issue of the CALMzine
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
February’s tournament proved a huge success and raised over £1,000 for Melanoma Research Foundation. This time we hope to raise even more money, involve even more players and do even more post-match drinking…
The Charity Cup will take place at The Thomas Parmiter Sports Centre in north Watford (WD25 0UU). We have secured a full 3G 11-a-side pitch (which can also be divided) available to us all afternoon between 2pm and 7pm.
