Story
Pro Corda Trust is a music and educational charity established in 1969.
It is the largest music organisation of its kind and is recognised as the UK’s centre of excellence for ensemble training. Pro Corda aims to equip each student with the necessary musical skills and life skills to succeed. As well as their work with young people, Pro Corda also runs courses for children with special educational needs. It is Pro Corda’s belief that music should be accessible to all and it is the only UK music school allocating equal course time each year to children and young people with disabilities as to those without.
We understand the wonderful and inspiring work Pro Corda does for so many people and we would like to raise as much money as possible so that they can continue their amazing work and reach even more people across the country.
The three members of the Fantasma trio (Hannah, Fiore and Matthew) are all 17 years old and we met nearly 6 years ago on the Pro Corda Primary course. We came together as a piano trio a year ago, and the first piece we performed together was the first movement of Beethoven's "Ghost Trio", hence the "Fantasma" (which means "ghost" in Italian). Since each of us started at Pro Corda, we have received world class tuition and guidance, helping to nurture and consolidate our passion for chamber music. As a result, we are working together to fundraise for Pro Corda.
We are putting on a fundraising concert in Cambridge on Friday 22nd February. Please email matthewkhchan01@gmail.com for more details. All donations from this concert will go directly towards sustaining the Leiston Abbey site (where Pro Corda is based) and also towards all the valuable work they do.
Leiston Abbey is an English Heritage Site and has been the home of Pro Corda for decades. However, it requires large amounts of maintenance to keep it running smoothly, so we want to raise money to help with this.
Since our first outing with the "Ghost Trio", we have since attempted many challenging trios, and our concert will feature music by Dvorak, Beethoven, Fauré, and Shostakovich among others, and we are sure it will be a very enjoyable evening where we can share our love for Pro Corda and all the inspiring opportunities it creates.
Ultimately, the three of us are more than a trio, because Pro Corda has brought us together through our shared love of chamber music. We hope that with your donations, many others may continue to benefit from Pro Corda for years to come.
All donations, large or small, will be very gratefully received.
