Event: Great Ethiopian Run, on 20 November 2022
We fund surgeries, antibiotics and training to eliminate trachoma in Ethiopia

Story

On Sunday 20 November 2022, five members of ‘Team Falko’ will join thousands of runners to complete the Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa to raise funds for ORBIS Ireland. ORBIS Ireland was established in 2005 and is currently focused on one major project: to eliminate a highly prevalent and life destroying, blinding disease – trachoma – in some of the poorest regions of southern Ethiopia.

Over 45,000 people are expected to participate in Africa’s biggest road race – a challenging 10km at 10,000 feet above sea level. Following the run, ‘Team Falko’ will travel to a rural region in southern Ethiopia to witness first-hand the work of ORBIS Ireland and the impact of the funds raised for this incredible charity. In this rural community the cost of a sight saving surgery is as little as £10, so every penny raised will truly change lives.

About the charity

Orbis is a charity working to eliminate avoidable blindness. Shockingly, 75% of all visual impairment can be prevented or treated. That means that nearly 190 million adults and children would be able to see today if they had received surgery, treatment or glasses.
