Story

Dear Family and Friends

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My Grandmother, who passed away in July 2017, was a tireless charity benefactor and worker. Amongst her many contributions in her local community in Islamabad, Pakistan, was the running of a school and orphanage for over 50 girls. Her focus was to empower others through education, so they could become self-sufficient. Her faith drove her to spend her own wealth, time and energy until her last days in the beautiful pursuit of giving to and empowering others.

Since her departure, I’ve been wanting to celebrate her memory as well as encourage myself and others to continue in the mould she set. The
project I have been inspired to undertake in her memory is a 450km cycle ride from Vietnam to Cambodia, with an all-female cycling team, to raise funds to support women and girls affected by poverty wherever in the world they are. An example of the women and girls projects that Care International supports can be seen here www.care-cambodia.org/

To this end I need your support in raising GBP £1,650. This is the minimum sponsorship amount required, although I hope that through your help I will be able to collect so much more. I will be covering all of my own costs - such as travel and subsistence - so your full donation will go directly to Care International, a UK registered charity.

I hope you can support me in this initiative to fundraise for women and girls and consequently their families. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we can all inspire each other to use some of the wealth we are blessed with to help those less well-off than ourselves? It is truly humbling to think that things could have been different for each and every one of us, and it's only through God’s grace that we are in a situation where we can be the benefactor and not the recipient of charity.

Thank you so much for your support – I already know you are a very generous person ;)! I look forward to seeing this fundraising total sky rocket!! Lots of heartfelt thanks and good wishes.

Faiza

P.S.  One of Care International's other projects (which is not one I am fund raising for with the cycle ride, but is totally amazing and I really want to share the information with you) is called ‘Lendwithcare’, which offers loans to poor entrepreneurs to help them develop their business to support themselves and their families, such as a tailor requiring a loan to purchase a new sewing machine, or a stall holder requiring a loan to expand the supplies for their shop etc. Interestingly two-thirds of recipients of microfinance worldwide are women, so this really does impact the sustainability of families.

The microfinance projects in Pakistan and Palestine are shariah compliant, which means that no interest is charged to those taking on the finance. In Pakistan there is no additional repayment at all other than the loan amount and in Palestine the repayment includes an element of profit share where the business is profitable (but no fixed interest amount) - making these both shariah compliant/equitable ways of helping others. Please also check it out at https://lendwithcare.org/

Just so you know: donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
