Story
In 2014 a 1 x 3 classroom Primary School fundraised by Exilda's Angels and Lloyds Register was opened in the Village of Chita nr Mpika in Zambia, which provided materials, with construction labour provided by the local community. Then in 2015, EA further fundraised and the accompanying headteachers house was completed and occupied. Among the many fundraising activities with his team, Alan Shand, chair of the charity’s Trustees, ran a series of Marathons.
The school has been very successful and is currently 8th out of 350 in Zambia Northern Provinces league table. The desire to learn is strong with pupil numbers increasing from 100 to 460. To cope with this, classes have been run in “shifts” and the community has built additional classrooms out of mud blocks.
We are now planning the next phase to build a further 1 x 3 additional classroom block (which will complement the temporary block) including provision for future IT and Alan will be running again, having completed the Cape Wrath Explorer in 2024.
Thank you for asking about our school extension, pleasure attaching our project links below of our Zambia storybook website
Exilda's Angels website can be found at http://exildasangels.org
After John Saville's talk last year he added a "tracker" about the build etc which starts at http://exildasangels.org/primary.html and is a good way for people to follow the story of the school Or the menus allow people to find a particular page.
