London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·
Hello everyone and thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This year I have decided to run the 2018 London marathon for Anthony Nolan.
As many of you know, I am a student at Queens University Belfast and am the president of Belfast Marrow (the student led branch of Anthony Nolan). This charity works to save the lives of people with a blood cancer of blood disorder (for example leukaemia, lymphoma and aplastic anaemia). For those who diagnosed with these illnesses, often their last chance of survival is to receive a stem cell transplant from a donor with the same tissue type. Around 75% of the 2000 people each year who need a transplant do not have a match within their families, meaning they turn to Anthony Nolan to find an unrelated donor. I think it is the most incredible thing to think that it is possible to potentially be able to save the life of someone with cancer, simply by being on the register. Through my work with Belfast Marrow, I have been fortunate enough to meet with both donors and recipients and see the incredible impact that this charity can have. This year so far alone, our society has signed up over 1300 people to the register. Being so closely involved with Marrow has led me to want to take on the 26.2 mile challenge and raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity.
The money raised from sponsorship will help to cover the £60 it costs to recruit each potential donor to the stem cell register, will fund new scientific research and will pay for specialist post-transplant nurses and support services for patients and families. Any donations will mean a lot to me and I thank you in advance for your generosity!
Lastly, I am throwing a Marathon fundraiser at the Bocabar Glastonbury (in my native Somerset) on the 30th March. I can guarantee a night of great music and dancing. It would be great to see as many of you as possible there!
Thank you soooo much,
Evie
