Story
Eve, a.k.a. The Tiny Tornado, can't walk independently (yet) but is nevertheless doing a relay para-triathlon, the Superhero Tri at the Paralympic / Olympic venue Dorney Lake on 19th August. Whilst Jenni and Steve will be doing most of the swim and cycle stage, our intent is that Eve will do the last few metres of both as she is an excellent swimmer and has her own para-trike. The run/push stage is Eve's event. She will be pushed most of the way by Jenni but will do the last 100m holding Jenni's hands and will attempt to walk over the line entirely independently.
Then in September she will be doing another run/push and attempting to beat her PB in the 100m sprint - it was 8 minutes 6 seconds last year but she walked every step!
She's doing all this to raise money for essential equipment for her amazing school. Brooklands School is a very special and amazing school for children aged 2-11 who have complex medical needs and severe learning disabilities. The school desperately needs new equipment for the playground and the sensory garden to the tune of approx £30,000 - the Government / Local Authority does not fund this. The importance of outdoor play for children with physical and developmental disabilities is huge and provides a number of vital benefits, for example improved cognitive development, physical confidence, improved motor skills and inclusive participation in typical childhood activities.
Steve is also doing the Prudential RideLondon, a 100 mile bike ride through London and Surrey on 29th July and Jenni is doing the Bacchus Half Marathon in the Surrey Hills on 10th September. However we all know Eve is the real sporting superhero!
