Story
Why I am supporting Scope?
Every six hours a child is born with cerebral palsy. The time of diagnosis can be especially difficult for parents, and Scope’s national network of fieldworkers are on hand to provide practical and emotional support, when parents don’t know where to turn.
Two years ago at a family gathering I met Rachael a young10 year old girl, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. It was then that I realized the impact that Cerebral Palsy had on the lives of Rachael and her mother. Rachael was full of life and a lovely girl but just 3 hours in her company, I saw how her condition affected every waking hour of her life and her 24/7 carer, her mother. I decided I wanted to try and make a difference.
After some research I discovered that 1 in 400 children born in Britain suffer from some form of Cerebral Palsy, so as you can imagine Scope have a massive job to help and find funding for everybody in need. The community teams receive no statutory funding so they rely purely on voluntary donations to keep them going.
That’s why I have become part of the ‘Cycling in Cambodia ’ team to raise funds for Scope. We are going to Cambodia on the 11th November 2006 as part of a Fund raising team of 35 with an overall target of £85,000. We are looking for sponsorship to cycle from Phnom Penh to Angkor Wat a distance 580KM over 6days traveling mostly through rural Cambodia on dust track roads.
I really hope that everyone can assist my quest to give the chance, for Scope to gain equality for disabled people.
