Story
On Saturday 26th February our team:
Henry Smith
Daniel Harris
Jake Hall
George Robins
Stephen Barnard
Paul Brennan
It’s a gruelling event that involves over 40 hours of ski touring, with
up to a total of 20 individual ascents over 4 days. Each day the teams climb between 2,000m – 2,500m to reach the overall target of 8,848m. The average amount of time out on the snow is 10-12 hours a day, but it can be longer – however long it takes to keep on track. At altitudes of up to 3,500m, each Everest in the Alps challenger will burn through a daily average of 10,000 calories – the equivalent of running three back-to-back marathons!!
You may ask why these heroes are doing such a challenge?! All for a
great cause; The Wickers Charity - https://wickers.org.uk/
The Wickers Charity launched in 2019 to tackle knife crime in East
London and with the help of donations we have gone from running weekly football sessions, to reaching over 5,000 disadvantaged youths, through our mentoring, knife crime awareness, afterschool activities & employability programmes.
Today, we are a trusted partner to 15 schools across East London, Social Services, the Met Police, over 60 organisations & businesses.
This past year we have delivered 20 employability workshops in
partnership with local businesses, this has led directly to
15 disadvantaged young people gaining employment.
Our goal is simple; we want to reduce knife crime by diverting high
risk, vulnerable children & young people away from crime. We do this by empowering them to make better decisions, helping them to understand what they are passionate about and unlocking opportunities for them.
So today, we are asking for your help. As we are a non-profit
organization, we rely purely on donations, grants, and corporate sponsorship to continue our great work in the community so please do sponsor our boys on this heroic challenge!
