Earlier this year I lost my best friend and lifelong training partner James after his short battle with bowel cancer.
James had a passion for sport and cycling, and was especially strong on the hills. He completed multiple Ironman races and Ultra running events in his lifetime, and pushed me (a few times literally 😅) up many bike climbs.
He often talked about the cycling challenge ‘Everesting’, but never had the chance to attempt it.
The challenge is simple... Pick one hill, anywhere in the world, and cycle repeats of it in a single ride until you climb 8,848m – the equivalent height of Mt Everest.
I'll be attempting to do this in memory of James and to raise funds for Willen Hospice who cared for James in his last 4 weeks.
I’ll be cycling up the Marchlyn Mawr dam climb in North Wales, it’s 2.8km long with an average gradient of 9.4%, and I'll have to cycle up this approximately 32 times to reach 8848m.
I'm not sure how long it will take (16-20 hours maybe?!), or if I will even manage it, but I'll give it my best shot 👊
