Story
As most of you already know, Rory was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in August 2017, at just 23 months old.
This condition affects 400,000 people in the UK, 29,000 of them are children and this is increasing by 4% each year, particularly in children under 5, with no known cause.
Myself and Kieran knew nothing about this condition on diagnosis, and have spent the last 6 months learning how we can best manage this for Rory, ensuring he leads a normal life, and is not affected by the fact he has to have insulin injected before every meal. We have taken a lot of time reading and researching about different treatments, clinical trials and upcoming advances in care which will help us and so many others, and we were amazed at how much promising work is happening.
We want to do all we can to help Diabetes UK find a cure which will enable people with Type 1 live a normal life, with minimal intervention, injections, and blood tests.
This is certainly going to be a challenge for me, having just given birth to a second little boy, I haven't actually been able to train for this, so I am literally throwing myself in at the deep end 8 weeks after giving birth.
I have my amazing friend Maxine doing this with me to show her support and hopefully, between us we can raise lots of awareness and a great donation to this wonderful charity. Thank you for reading my story! :)
