When our daughter Madison was 4 days old, we went into hospital for some breastfeeding advice and noticed she didn't seem very well. They started her on light therapy and gave her antibiotics and within 10 minutes she was having difficulty breathing and then went into cardiac arrest. Within such a short time we went from settling in at home with our beautiful newborn baby to the shock of watching the chaos of the medical team rushing in and trying to save our daughters life. She needed to be transferred to London Evelina urgently for their intensive care facilities however the only two children ambulances in the South Thames Retrieval Service were already transporting other children to the hospital. Our local hospital had many phone calls with the transport team to prep Madison for the transfer and it felt like such a long wait before they arrived. Once they were there, they helped with a procedure on Madison and were absolutely amazing in helping to calm us during the ambulance journey. This is why we would love to raise £1000 for the Evelina hospital for Madison's first birthday and have requested the money goes towards the retrieval service. Our story could have been very different if they were not able to help the doctors at our local hospital over the phone and transfer her.
It was by far the hardest day of our lives and we cannot thank all of the nurses and doctors enough who helped Madison recover.
